1SOMS - 1st Sunday of Month Swim

Well 1SOMS is growing and with it I realize that there is a person behind the goggles... real life ... some do extraordinary things... so I thought i'd start to provide links to some of their own personal websites... Please excuse that I can't get to all of you immediately ... but I will try my best to profile a couple of my Polarbears..

Roger Finch (aka #294)... a Joburg local I was surprised to notice him at 1SOMS outside of December-January... We got to chatting and he mentioned he had flown down with some mates to compete in the Clanwilliam triathlon (the day before) and then had driven down the coast to contest in 1SOMS... His next challenge - the Channel

Phil Emslie (aka #0968 )
Clifton Cold Water Mile Champion 2011,2012
Scott Tait (aka #0975)...is a realtor living in False Bay. He has taken up the challenge of open water and 1st came down to 1SOMS in August 2011.. Today he brought down his wife Bianca for her 1st 1SOMS...(Here's hoping that he migrates from the wetsuited variety...just saying ;-) )

Rouen Smit has had a number of good swims in 2012... what does 2013 hold for him?
Swimmer RaceNo 1000.
One experience of 1SOMS and hoping its not the last seen of this Polarbear..the view and th cameraderie is worth a bit of FRESH water ;-)

Open Water in other parts of South Africa

East Cape has a tad warmer conditions than Cape Town and there has always been a fair amount of rivalry between the 2 provinces... This said at least in one arena the two provinces share a love for competition and the outdoors.. Many moons ago Cape Champs showed how much the two provinces enjoy themselves.

East Cape has some Challenge series...if you on holiday make the inquiry and go enjoy another place for open water. Send them Western Cape's fondest wishes.

PS I think East Cape may have more wetsuits than WP... Just saying Z ;-)
